LOCK REVIEWS

As a locksmith I often get asked “What’s a good lock?” To help answer this question I have created this page with some lock reviews. The locks discussed here will be rated using six criteria: (1) affordability, (2) strength, (3) aesthetics, (4) installability (my word), (5) recombinability (also my word), and (6) pick and bump resistance. The first criterion measures a lock’s value based on the costs associated with purchasing and maintaing it. The second criterion measures a lock’s value based on its ability to withstand wrench, hammer, and drill attacks. The third criterion measures a lock’s value based on its beauty, or physical appeal. The fourth criterion measures a lock’s value based on the level of ease with which it can be installed. The fifth criterion measures a lock’s value based on the level of difficulty with which it is rekeyed or set to a new combination. The sixth and final criterion measures a lock’s value based on its ability to withstand both pick and bump attacks.
